Recently many owners of Android and iOS devices began to complain that when trying to enter their own Instagram accounts the smartphone reports the message “Suspicious login attempt: we detected an unusual login attempt. We’ll send you a security code to verify your identity“. Today we decided to understand the probable causes of this issue and offer you several ways to fix it.
The issue manifests itself as follows:
- A user logins his account;
- “Suspicious login attempt” message appears in the screen. Then a user is offered to select a way to receive a security code to login;
- After selecting “phone” option the code is received. The problem is that. After login a new password a user gets the same message “Suspicious login attempt” and the circle is closed.
Instagram forum is full of complains about this issue. They look like:
Hi, my account is about 5 years old. Now I face the issue, that is, I can’t access my account through a browser, or through other phones, or through other apps. The screen constantly displays “We detected an unusual login attempt”. I go to the email, get a secure code, enter it, and again and again I find myself on Instagram home page. What is the problem? Both the email and the phone for this account are working.
After studying advices in the web we made attempts to fix the issue by clearing cache, reinstalling the app, using older app versions, and having authorization in web-version. There was no result. Well, we made hard attempts to find a solution. We spread out our search over forums and, finally, we came to conclusions. The problem refers to a geolocation momentarily change (ip, country, region changes).
Amongst pages on one forum we found the answer:
Do not let your account have geolocation leap. They have a clever neuro bot. Moreover it is self-learning. It fixes the geolocation when registering for the first time. Then security codes are formed accordingly.
And everything begins clear. The app doesn’t allow to authorize using your home Wi-Fi, or via web-version because of the same IP-address. At last, using cell Internet it is no trouble to make authorization and then to switch it to home Wi-Fi. From this point of view it is not difficult to explain the problem. Cell network providers often assign another region to IP-address. You have probably faced it already. It likely happened the last time.
It remains to find out why Instagram has so serious security system that it rejects and doesn’t allow to authorize one even if he has working email and a phone number. It is not clear.
